These are the companies which have been growing at 20% or more each year for a 3 year period where the company was doing a minimum of $1m (or had a minimum of 10 employees) at the start of the 3 year period. It’s perhaps a little depressing that so few businesses make it through the challenging early stages to reach ‘scale up’ status. In fact it’s around 0.5%, or 1 in every 200 businesses, that get to wear the t-shirt. Many entrepreneurs fall over because despite having the talent and drive, they lack the ‘structure’ which allows them to grow fast but critically, while staying in control and without running out of cash. If you have a great business and you’re ambitious but you don’t have the controls, systems and visibility to keep the whole business under control then we should talk.
